ALBANY, N.Y.--The host Great Danes (18-6, 3-2 AE) served up 12 aces and raced to the finish with a .581 attack percentage in the third game, defeating Binghamton (11-9, 2-3 AE) 3-0 in an America East match on Saturday evening. Albany won by scores of 30-25, 31-29 and 30-12.
After winning the first two games to put the Bearcats on the brink of elimination, the Great Danes sealed the victory in the third game by pounding 20 kills with just two attack errors. Albany attacked at a .268 clip for the match.
Junior middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led the Bearcats with nine kills. Crocus made no attack errors and maintained a .500 attack percentage for the match, while also adding six blocks to her conference-leading total. Freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) produced 25 assists.
Binghamton, which is in the midst of playing five straight matches on the road, will take on Marist on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
