VESTAL, N.Y. - In the program's first-ever America East Conference match, Binghamton (6-11, 1-0 AE) rallied from two games down to defeat Albany (9-8, 0-1 AE) Tuesday night at East Gym. The Bearcats scored an 18-30, 28-30, 30-25, 30-26, 15-12 come-from-behind victory.

The win marks the first time that Binghamton has rallied from two games down to win a match since defeating Bentley 3-2 on Oct. 31, 1999.

"This is a good way to start our conference schedule," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Our passing improved as the match went on. We were also able to dig better in the later games."

Five different players registered double-digit kills, led by sophomore Jennifer Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), who had 13 kills. Second-year middle hitter Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) produced 12 kills and a match-high eight blocks. Crocus leads the entire conference in blocks with a 1.6 per-game average.

Sophomore Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and junior Allison Beard (Elkland, Pa.) each recorded 12 kills, and junior Nicole Savin (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) posted a career-high 11 kills.

"Nicole played especially well tonight," Kiriyama said. "This is the first time we moved her to the outside hitter position and she handled it good."

Sophomore setter Glorimar Ortega (Naranjito, Puerto Rico/Bayamon Academy) collected career-high 46 assists, 10 digs, eight kills and four blocks.

Albany was led by freshman Alexis Bowens, who put down a match-high 31 kills in 71 attempts (.310). Sophomore setter Jill Dombrowski had a match-high 53 assists.

Binghamton will next travel to Orono, Maine on Sunday for a conference match against Maine.
