Naglieri (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Three Volleyball Players Named Conference All-Stars Kane named to league's first team for third straight season STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Three members of the Binghamton University volleyball program have been honored by the America East Conference, highlighted by senior Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.), who earned first-team all-conference honors for the third straight year. Kane was also named to the league's seven-member all-academic team. Freshmen Lindsey Mueller (West Bend, Wis.) and Michelle McDonough (Orland Hills, Ill.) both received all-rookie accolades. Kane has enjoyed perhaps the finest season of her four-year career in 2007. She has led the America East in total blocks per game (1.57) for the third straight season. The 6-foot-2 middle has 182 blocks setting a new single-season school record, surpassing the previous total of 174 set by former Bearcat Anne Crocus during the 2002 season. Her performance at the net this season has put her in second place on the BU all-time list with 607 career blocks, just six away from the school record heading into this weekend's championship. Kane currently ranks sixth on BU's all-time kill list with 1,034 for career. She is just the eighth player in school history to reach the 1,000 career-kill plateau. Kane owns a team-high tying .264 hitting percentage and is fourth on the team in kills per game (2.36). In conference play, she is third in hitting with a .333 clip and is averaging a league-best 1.93 blocks per game. She also earned America East Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors on September 30. Mueller came into the fall with big shoes to fill following the graduation of BU's all-time career assist leader Ashley Meffert '07. With the 5-10 setter quarterbacking the BU offense, the Bearcats haven't missed a beat. Mueller has enjoyed a stellar first season compiling 10.14 assists per games and 24 double-doubles (assist-dig) on the year. She is second on the team averaging 3.44 digs per game and is fourth with 81 total blocks. Earlier this year she earned both America East Rookie (Sept. 10) and Setter of the Week (Oct. 22) nods, as well as All-Golden Flash Invitational honors, as BU swept three matches in the tournament. McDonough has played in all 33 matches and leads the Bearcats in kills with 2.70 per game. She is third on the team in digs (2.87) and has seven double-doubles on the season (kill-dig). Binghamton (16-17, 6-5 AE) heads into this weekend's America East Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed and will face regular season champion Stony Brook in a semifinal matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. |
