Bearcats sweep Canisius for fourth straight win


VESTAL, N.Y. — Host Binghamton University (7-10) put three players in double-digits for kills and swept a three-game match from visiting Canisius College (2-10) Friday evening in the East Gym. The Bearcats scored a 30-20, 30-24, 30-24 victory for the team’s fourth straight win. Binghamton is 5-1 at home this season.

Freshman outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) put down a match-high 21 kills with just seven errors (.400 attack percentage), while first-year teammate Jennifer Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) added 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Sophomore hitter Morgan Jimerson (Grandview, N.Y./Nyack) chipped in 10 kills. Senior setter Sara DeClemente (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) handed out 43 assists with 10 digs and three aces.

Canisius was led by junior Jennifer Debee (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River), freshman Christina Wildes (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and senior Miranda Thomas (Rose Hill, Kan./Rose Hill) — each of whom had five kills. Junior setter Kelly Sieber (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) contributed 21 assists and 10 digs.

Binghamton travels to Western New York on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match at University of Buffalo.
