Heck leads Bearcats at Harvard Crimson Classic

At Harvard, the Bearcats picked up one win in three matches. On Friday, BU lost to Georgia State, 24-30, 25-30, 27-30. Freshman hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) led the team with 13 kills and 14 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Smith (North Tonawanda) added 11 kills with only one error (.370 attack percentage) and eight digs. Senior setter Sara DeClemente (Painted Post/Corning West) handed out 29 assists. On Saturday, BU split two matches, defeating Dartmouth, 30-28, 26-30, 28-30, 31-29, 16-14, before losing to the host Crimson, 30-17, 22-30, 26-30, 24-30. Heck hammered home a match-high 19 kills with 14 digs against Dartmouth, and BU overcame two match points to pull out the win. Smith added 13 kills and 10 digs, while freshman middle hitter Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) chipped in 10 kills and nine blocks. DeClemente produced 55 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Shannon Kelly (Ridge/Longwood) had 10 digs and five aces. Against Harvard, Heck again led the way with 16 kills and 17 digs, but BU hit just .089 (36 errors). Heck was named to the all-tournament team for the Bearcats.
