Bearcats swept by host Cal State Fullerton, 3-0
FULLERTON, Calif.- Brittany Moore and Deven Bukoski combined for 25 kills to lead the host Titans to a three-game sweep (30-27, 30-28, 30-25) over the Bearcats Friday evening at the Four Points Titan Classic at Titan Gym in Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 3-0 overall on the young season while Binghamton fell to 1-4 overall.
The Titans, who never trailed by more than one point, were led by Moore who hit .385 on the night with 12 kills. Bukoski led all players with 13 kills and added 14 digs for the double-double.
"I thought we played pretty well tonight. Although we fell behind in each of the games, we did a good job of fighting back and not giving up," said head coach Glenn Kiriyama. "It was a fun match to watch, but unfortunately, we came up just short at the end of the games."
Senior Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) was the lone BU player to hit in double figures with 11 kills. Hoag would also add 11 digs to register her team-best third double-double of the season.
Defensively, Binghamton put forth a strong effort despite the final outcome. Six Bearcats finished with double-digits in digs, with senior Katie Robertson (Ancaster, Ontario) and sophomore Jacyln Strader (Kettering, Ohio) pacing the squad with 14 apiece. Junior Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) and sophomore Ashley Allen (Mill Creek, Wash.) each added a match-high six blocks for BU. For Allen, the total marks a new career high.
The Bearcats return to action with a pair of matches Saturday, taking on the College of Charleston at 1 p.m. and closing out the Four Points Classic against Weber State at 4:30 p.m.
