Bearcats lose homer opener to UC Riverside, 3-1

In a Labor Day matinee, visiting UC Riverside (3-1) used its height advantage to secure a 3-1 victory over host Binghamton (1-2). The scores were 30-27, 30-19, 28-30, 30-26.

The Highlanders, who sport six players 6-feet or taller, collected 18 team blocks to just five for BU. Junior hitter Pam Hartman produced 12 kills and four blocks, while 6-0 freshman hitter Shannon Burmaster notched 11 kills and five blocks. Six-foot-2 sophomore hitter Allison Donald tallied eight kills and eight blocks.

Binghamton was led by sophomore hitter Morgan Jimerson, who totalled 17 kills. Freshman Jennifer Smith tallied 15 kills, while senior setter Sara DeClemente handed out 39 assists with three aces.

The Bearcats next compete in the Army Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8.
