top Colgate for second time in five days
HAMILTON, N.Y.--Playing in their only non-tournament match in the month of September, Binghamton (3-1) defeated host Colgate (0-7) 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Cotterell Court. The Bearcats won by scores of 30-25, 30-18, 30-21. It was the second meeting between the schools in the last five days. The Bearcats also posted a 3-0 triumph over the Raiders last Friday in the first match of the Syracuse Big Orange Tournament.
Junior middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had a team-high 10 kills and a .769 attack percentage on the strength of zero attack errors. Crocus also added five blocks and classmate Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) tallied nine kills and nine digs. Freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) dished out 25 assists.
The Bearcats came out strong, attacking at a .351 clip in the first game and hitting a season-high .265 for the match. Continuing a trend that began in the team's first three matches, Binghamton featured a balanced offense, as four players had at least seven kills in this match. For the season, the Bearcats' top five hitters are all averaging at least 2.00 kills per game.
Binghamton will now prepare to host the Binghamton Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The team will welcome Canisius, Quinnipiac and Youngstown State to West Gym for a round-robin tournament. The Bearcats will take on Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. Friday and then face Youngstown State (1 p.m.) and Canisius (6 p.m.) on Saturday.
