America East Conference Release

VESTAL, N.Y.--Senior outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) has been named the America East Conference Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Oct. 18-Oct. 24. This marks the first time in her career she has received the honor.

In two matches last week, Heck posted 5.50 kills and 4.13 digs per game. She recorded a double-double with a career-high tying 26 kills and a career-high 23 digs against Stony Brook on Friday. She posted her second double-double of the week with 18 kills and 10 digs against UMBC on Saturday. In the match against Stony Brook, Heck had 72 kill attempts breaking the school record of 66 which was set on September 21, 1996 by Nicole Canestrare. Heck also had a .412 hitting percentage against UMBC.

"Against Stony Brook, Michele (Heck) had a nice all-around game, she really provided the leadership we needed during the match," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Overall she hit well, she came through with timely blocks, scrambled well on defense the entire time she was out there."

Binghamton (14-12, 4-3 AE) hosts Albany (19-5, 7-0 AE) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at West Gym.

NOTES: This the fifth time during the 2004 season a Binghamton volleyball player has received conference honors, Anne Crocus was honored three times as America East Player of the Week and Jacki Kane received America East Rookie of the Week two weeks ago.
