Binghamton defeats Stony Brook in four games

Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y.--Junior middle hitter Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had a team-high 17 kills and a match-high eight total blocks (four solo, four assists) leading Binghamton (10-7, 1-1 AE) to a 34-32, 30-25, 22-30, 30-21 victory over Stony Brook (10-9, 1-1 AE) in an America East Conference volleyball match on Friday night at East Gym. With the win, the Bearcats defeat the Seawolves for the first time since 1988. Up until Friday night, Binghamton had dropped 14 straight matches to Stony Brook, including a pair of five-game heartbreakers last season.

"This was a sweet win for us because of the two matches that we lost to Stony Brook last year," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We kept up our intensity for the entire match even though they made a run in the third game."

Junior outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./ Resurrection) posted her sixth consecutive double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) tallied 44 assists to go along with 14 digs and three kills. Freshman outside hitter Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio/ Padua Fransiscan) had 12 kills, 21 digs and six total blocks while senior outside hitter Nicole Savin (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./ Comsewogue) also posted 21 digs.

Binghamton faces Hartford on Saturday at West Gym at 5 p.m.

NOTE: With 848 career kills, Heck now moves into fifth place all time in school history.
