Ashley Meffert earns America East rookie honors
America East Release
After helping lead Binghamton to wins in two of its three matches last week, freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on October 27.
Meffert, who ranks second in the conference in assists, dished out 114 helpers (10.36/game) as the Bearcats defeated Marist and Maine in the midst of five straight matches away from home. She also contributed 28 digs, six blocks and five service aces to go along with 10 kills.
Meffert is the first Binghamton freshman since 1992 to hold down full-time duties as the team's setter. To this point in the season she is averaging 11.18 assists per game. If she maintains that mark through the end of the season, it will be a new school record. The current record of 11.13 was set by Sara DeClemente in 1999.
