VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team welcomed the local media into its practice on Monday afternoon as they prepare to play No. 1 Penn State in the upcoming First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. BU last made it to the tournament in 2005, where they also took on Penn State.

Head Coach Glenn Kiriyama

On playing Penn State...

"To be able to play the best team in the nation is an honor. It's going to be fun for us and it's good to see some good volleyball."

On Penn State being a different team from the 2005 match...

"They're still good. They've gotten actually a little bit better. They've been undefeated the last couple years. They've got some athletic hitters on their team. They're tall, and block high; it's going to be a good challenge."

On the team's preparation...

"We're trying to get them a little better prepared and a little more into it, and a little more active here. There is some adjustments we need to make. We just got to get used to digging at sharper angles, and harder balls coming at us."

On the team's goals for the NCAA tournament...

"The challenge is that we want to play as well as we did this last weekend with Albany in the conference tournament. To get to that point, it's going to take some work this week. Hopefully we can get as prepared as we were for the conference tournament."

Senior co-captain Dawn Lammert

On playing Penn State...

"I would say it's kind of an honor to play someone that much better than you. That's how you get better at anything, by challenging yourself and having to play someone that's better than you."

Junior co-captain Michelle McDonough

On playing Penn State...

"It's going to be a tough game. They're a great team with a lot of experience and a lot of big players. It's an exciting experience playing someone of that caliber."

On preparing for Friday's game...

"We have to focus on what we can do. We know they're a great team, they have a lot of different experiences. We just have to focus on the basic skills."

Junior setter Lindsey Mueller

On going to the NCAA tournament ...

"It feels great. We have been working for this for a very long time. Last season we didn't do as well as expected, and now this year we finally pulled it off and are going to the NCAAs, so that's really exciting."

On being named the Most Outstanding Player of the America East Tournament...

"It was an honor; I really wasn't expecting it. It was very unexpected and it's not really going to change anything. I'm still going to play the way I played before."
