Team still has two more matches this weekend

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- Ellen Herman and Sue Jacobi posted 12 kills each in leading Ohio (1-3) over Binghamton (2-2) 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-8) at the opening match of the Pitt Classic on Friday morning.

The Bobcats, who are receiving votes in the AVCA poll, out-hit the Bearcats .292 to .105 to earn the straight-sets victory.

Binghamton led for most of the first set before Ohio tied the score at 18-18. The Bobcats then used a 6-2 run to get to set-point. The Bearcats fought back to close the gap to two at 24-22. Ohio eventually finished off the set and then controlled the rest of the match.

"Late in the match Ohio started blocking more effectively and they serves were tough," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We need to get more consistent and keep elevating our game."

Sophomore hitter
Michelle McDonough (Orland Hills, Ill.) tallied seven kills at a .385 hitting percentage to pace the Binghamton offense.

"Michelle did a nice job of hitting and getting herself available for quick sets," Kiriyama said.

Senior Brianna Strong (Elkhart Ind.) collected a match-high nine digs to go along with four blocks.

Meghan Simmons posted five blocks and Michelle Jantsch dished out 32 assists for the Bobcats.

Binghamton will resume play at the Pitt Classic tonight when they take on host-Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. The Bearcats will also compete against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in their final match of the tournament.
