Binghamton sweeps Siena in home finale

VESTAL, N.Y.--Junior outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./ Resurrection) nailed a match-high 12 kills and in the process, became just the fourth player in school history to record 1,000 career kills, leading Binghamton (16-13) to a 30-16, 30-23, 30-19 win over Siena (5-21) in the final home volleyball match of the year. With the win, the Bearcats clinch their first winning season since 2000.

"We got off to a fast start tonight," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Things settled down in the second game but we were able to hit and block a little better than they did over the rest of the match."

Junior middle hitter Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) posted 10 kills and had a match-high eight blocks (two solo, six assisted) and freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./ Fern Creek) had 43 assists. Freshman middle hitter Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio/ Padua Franciscan) had nine kills, 10 digs and hit .421 (9-1-19). Senior Nicole Savin (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) posted a match-high 12 digs.

For Siena, Christie Gustafson had a team-high 11 kills and Katie Borrett had 27 assists.

Binghamton heads to Hartford for a 7 p.m. match on Friday.
