Volleyball beats Stony Brook in five games
STONY BROOK, N.Y.--Senior outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill.) had team-highs 26 kills and 23 digs to lead Binghamton (13-12, 3-3 AE) to a 3-2 victory over Stony Brook (11-11, 2-4 AE) in an America East volleyball match Friday night at SBU Sports Complex. The game scores were 26-30, 30-27, 24-30, 30-23, 15-12.
"It was a nice win for us," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We were all over the court taking balls and keeping the rallies alive. We did a good enough job blocking and hitting that we kept them off balance."
The Bearcats had four players who contributed double-doubles. Senior right side hitter Jen Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) had 19 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) added 61 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) had 10 kills and 15 digs.
This season the Bearcats have won all four matches that went to a fifth game.
Binghamton heads to UMBC for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
