Binghamton volleyball sweeps Stony Brook 3-0
Bearcats come out victorious in AE opener

VESTAL N.Y. - Sophomore outside hitter Anna Lejina posted a match-high 13 kills to help Binghamton (6-11, 1-0 AE) to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) victory over Stony Brook (9-10, 0-1 AE) in each team's America East conference opener from the West Gym on Friday night.

"Our offense really came alive tonight, especially our outside hitters," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "This was a big win for us as we go into our conference schedule."

Sophomore outside hitter Michelle McDonough posted 12 kills and five digs and senior Ashley Allen swung at an impressive .444 clip on her way to nine kills, while also blocking four shots.

Sophomore Lindsey Mueller did a superb job of running the Bearcats offense on her way to 35 assists and senior libero Jaclyn Strader controlled the back line all night en route to a match-high 18 digs.

Sophomore Mercedes Montford continued her impressive play of late, tallying seven kills and five blocks.

Binghamton will continue its home stand against Hartford on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Binghamton tied the all-time Division I series record between the two schools at 8-8 ... Binghamton also exacted some revenge with the win after Stony Brook defeated Binghamton three times in 2007, including in the conference tournament ... Stony Brook is the defending America East regular season champions
