Binghamton volleyball falls to Syracuse 3-0

Vestal, N.Y. - Syracuse's Sarah Morton tallied a match-high 12 kills to lead the Orange (20-10) to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-20) win over Binghamton (12-15) in a non-conference match on Tuesday evening.

The Orange finished strong in the first and second sets after the scores were knotted at 20-20 in each of the games. In the first set, Binghamton had set-point at 24-22, but Syracuse went on a 5-1 run to overtake the Bearcats and set the tone for the match. SU closed on a 5-3 run in the second set.

Binghamton was led by the junior hitting tandem of Anna Lejina and Michelle McDonough, who each posted 11 kills. McDonough also had 11 digs, while Lejina posted three blocks.

Senior middle Dawn Lammert also posted seven blocks for Binghamton.

Senior libero Brianna Strong collected a match-high 14 digs and in the process moved into second place in the single-season dig record book and now has 422 on the year.

Binghamton will host Hartford in their final conference regular season match of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. The Bearcats will honor seniors Strong, Lammert and Julia Vint prior to the Hartford match.
