SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Binghamton volleyball program (5-10) fell to Syracuse (18-1) 3-1 (25-23, 14-25, 17-25, 11-25) Wednesday evening in a non-conference match up.
Binghamton took a one game to none advantage following a strong first set behind a .371 hitting percentage. The Bearcats took a 14-11 lead on a kill by senior hitter Anna Lejina. Syracuse was able to draw even late in the set at 22. However, BU finished off the Orange, 25-23 on kills by Lejina and senior captain Michelle McDonough.
The Bearcats were unable to generate any further offense without setter Julie Chambers as Syracuse won the next three sets to earn their 18th victory of the season. The Bearcats were out hit by the Orange .398 to .226.
Outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre led the way for the Orange with a game-high 17 kills and 18 digs. Setter Laura Homann dished out 48 assists for Syracuse.
The senior hitting tandem of Lejina and McDonough recorded 12 and 14 kills, respectively. Freshman libero Xiomara Ortiz collected 17 digs for BU.
Up next for Binghamton is their America East opener at UMBC on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
