swept by New Hampshire
DURHAM, N.H.--Playing its fifth straight match on the road, Binghamton (13-10, 3-4 AE) was defeated 3-0 by New Hampshire (15-10, 6-1 AE) on Saturday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium. The Wildcats extended their winning streak to four and won for the seventh time in their last eight matches, winning by scores of 26-30, 19-30, 27-30.
"We played better against them than last year," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We were pretty close in the first and third games and they both went down to the wire. New Hampshire had a lot of aggressive jump servers and that really threw out our offense. We had trouble passing off their serves and couldn't run a lot in the middle. We had trouble executing in all three games."
For just the second time this season, the Bearcats failed to produce any players with double-digit kills. Junior middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led the squad with eight kills and added two blocks. Freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) dished out 26 assists and senior defensive specialist Nicole Savin (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied 15 digs.
After having played five straight matches on the road, the Bearcats will play their next six matches at East Gymnasium. The homestand begins on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a match against UMBC. Binghamton was narrowly defeated by the Retrievers 3-2 earlier this month.
