Bearcats nail school-record 20 aces, sweep Vermont

Binghamton (4-10) used a school-record 20 service aces to defeat Vermont
(1-15) 30-22, 30-16, 30-13 in volleyball action today at East Gym. The previous school record of 19 service aces was set against Franklin Pierce on Nov. 13, 1999.

The Bearcats nailed seven aces in the first game, nine in the second game and closed out with four in the final game. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Savin (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./ Comsewogue) led the way with a career-high seven aces. Senior setter Sarah DeClemente (Painted Post, N.Y./ Corning West) added six aces.

Freshman outside hitter Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./ Ressurection) had a match-high 13 kills. DeClemente had 19 assists and junior setter Amanda Breitfeld (Allentown, Pa./ Central Catholic) added 13 assists. Freshman middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./ Freedom) had a match-high four blocks.

Binghamton travels to Central Connecticut for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday.
