Bearcat Volleyball Blog

Week 1: August 27-28, 2010

During the Binghamton volleyball non-conference tournament schedule, a different Bearcat will be writing a weekend blog discussing life on the road as a BU student-athlete.

The opening weekend blog from the Rocket Volleyball Classic in Toledo, Ohio was written by senior outside hitter Sandra Devito. Next weekend the volleyball team is traveling to Fairfield, Connecticut as they play in the Sacred Heart Invitational.

Our first tournament didn’t go as well as our team would have liked. Dropping the first three matches is not how we wanted to start our promising year. Even though we had a rough weekend our team made some improvements along with way.

We gained valuable playing experience competing against the No. 12 team in the country, Michigan. Just as when we played Penn State last year in the NCAA's, it was a great learning opportunity to play a team of that caliber. We have seen what improvements need to made to be able to win at that level. We learned what we need to work on as a team and are ready to make the changes and put in the hard work at practice to get the results we want.

Outside of playing we were able to bond as a team while going out to dinner at Chipotle and Buffalo Wild Wings. The first tournament is typically a struggle because it’s always a new team from the year before. Having just one new face on the floor can make a big difference. I am excited for this upcoming weekend now that we have the kinks worked out and our team chemistry is developing. We have a lot of talent on our team and I’m excited to see what we're going to be able to do with it.
