TOLEDO,
OH - Binghamton volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to Western
Kentucky Saturday morning at Toledo's Rocket Volleyball Classic
at Savage Hall. The Lady Toppers came out on top by scores of
30-14, 30-23, 30-25. The win pushes the reigning Sun Belt champions
to a perfect 3-0 mark, while Binghamton falls to 0-3 on the young
season.
Western Kentucky caught the Binghamton off guard in game one,
breaking open an early 7-7 contest with an impressive 19-3 surge,
taking the match's first game by a comfortable 30-14 margin.
The Lady Toppers hit for an impressive .375 in the opening frame
while committing only four errors on 40 total attacks.
In a back and forth second game that featured a match-high six
lead changes, the Bearcats' play improved markedly. BU held a
21-17 advantage and looked poised to even the match at one game
apiece, but it was not to be as the Lady Toppers came surging
back, using a dominating 13-2 run to capture their second straight
game.
Western
Kentucky would took game three in similar fashion, as BU led
20-17 before eventually succumbing to the powerful Toppers' attack
and falling by a 30-25 margin.
Jenna Gideon led two Western Kentucky players that hit in double
figures with a match-high 12 kills while teammate Megan Argabright
added 11 kills and three blocks.
For Binghamton, seniors Katie Robertson
(Ancaster, Ontario) and Megan Hoag (Brunswich,
OH) each finished with a team-high nine kills. Robertson's contribution
would also extend to the defensive end, as the outside hitter
added a match-high 14 digs.
Binghamton faces its final opponent of the Rocket Volleyball
Classic later this evening, taking on Wright State at 5 p.m.
