VESTAL, N.Y.-- The America East Conference has release its women's basketball preseason poll and Binghamton has been tabbed to finish third out of nine teams. In addition, senior guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) and senior center Laine Kurpniece (Riga, Latvia) have been named to the preseason all-conference team.

The third-place prediction is the Bearcats' highest since they joined the America East Conference in 2001. In addition, this marks the first time that Binghamton has had a pair of preseason all-conference picks.

Hartford was picked first, followed by Vermont, Binghamton, Boston and Stony Brook. UMBC, Maine, Albany and New Hampshir round out the predicted order of finish.

The Bearcats are the only team this year with a pair of all-conference picks. Joining Sario and Kurpniece are Danielle Hood of Hartford, Dana Ferraro of Stony Brook and Courtney Pilypaitis of Vermont.

Sario, who was named second-team all-conference last season, led the squad with 13.5 points per game. She was also named America East All-Rookie Team in 2005 and earned a spot on the 2007 America East All-Tournament Team.

Kurpniece, who was named third-team all-conference last season, was second on the team with 10.9 points and first with 5.7 rebounds per game. She was also named second-team all-conference as a sophomore.

Binghamton finished 12-19 last season and tied for fourth in the America East Conference. The Bearcats open their 2007-08 season on Saturday at Portland State at 10:05 p.m.
