America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for fifth
time this season
guard makes game-winning layup at Albany on Sunday
VESTAL, N.Y. -- For the fifth
time this season, freshman guard Jasbriell
Swain has been named the America East Conference Rookie of
the Week. It marks the most times in a season that a BU women's
basketball player has received a weekly honor.
Swain made the game-winning shot against Albany with 59 seconds
left to go on Sunday. With the Bearcats down 40-39 Swain missed
a layup with a minute to go but got her own rebound and made
the most of her second chance, putting the Bearcats up 41-40.
It would be the final, and most decisive basket that either team
would score. For the game, Swain finished with seven points,
14 rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal.
For the season, Swain currently sits in fifth place in the America
East with 8.0 rebounds per game and ranks ninth with 1.7 steals
per contest. In her last six games, she has averaged 11.7 rebounds
per night and has reached double figures in rebounding five times
during that stretch. In her rookie season, Swain has recorded
10 games of double-digit rebounds and has tallied six double-doubles
in the process.
Having also been named the conference's top rookie on Nov. 15,
Nov. 22 Dec. 20 and Feb. 7, Swain surpasses teammate Andrea
Holmes, who was named the America East Rookie of the Week
for times during the 2008-09 campaign. At the conclusion of that
season, Holmes was named the America East Rookie of the Year.
Binghamton (17-10, 10-4 AE) hosts Boston University on Wednesday
in its regular season home finale at 7 p.m. The Bearcats head
into the game ranked No. 20 on the NCAA Division I level in scoring
defense (54.4 ppg.) and field goal percentage defense (.351).
