N.Y.- Junior forward Laine Kurpniece
(Riga, Lativa) scored a game-high and season-high 20 points,
leading Binghamton (7-13, 3-4 AE) to a 70-64 victory over Boston
(10-10, 2-5 AE) in an America East Conference women's basketball
game on Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. It was the Bearcats'
second triumph in the past three games.
Trailing 50-45 with 5:55 to go in the second half, the Bearcats
closed the game on a 25-14 run. Senior guards Shea
Kenny (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Rebecka
Lindgren (Oskarshamn, Sweden) played key roles in the comeback
shooting a combined 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the
final minute of the game.
The Bearcats had three players in double figures. For Kurpniece,
it was her sixth career 20-point game, while Kenny scored a season-high
13 points and junior guard Laura Sario
(Espoo, Finland) added 10 points.
Leading the way for the Terriers was freshman forward Aly Hinton
who scored 12 points. Junior guard Cherri Raffo and sophomore
guard Amarachi Umez-Eronini each added 11 points.
Despite only connecting on four field goals over the last 11:28
of regulation, Binghamton won this game at the free throw line,
shooting 25-of-28 for the game (89%).
The Bearcats start a three-game road trip, beginning at Stony
Brook on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
