Bearcats Overwhelm Boston University 64-40

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton Bearcats (10-3, 1-1 America East) won their conference home opener with a 64-40 blowout of Boston University (8-6, 1-2) Friday night in front of a season-high 961 at West Gymnasium.

After trailing 2-0 early on, Binghamton went on a decisive 25-7 run to open a 16-point lead with seven minutes left in the half. Five different Bearcats scored during the run, led by senior center Sarah Cartmill (Ithaca), who had eight of her game-high 22 points during the run. Leah Truncale (Newburgh) had seven points during the run and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Binghamton led 34-15 at the break, holding the Terriers to just three first-half field goals and 12.5 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. The Terriers trailed 36-21 early in the second half before Binghamton went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 44-21 with 16:35 to play. The lead was never under 20 the rest of the way and the Bearcats led by as many as 31 points.

Katie Terhune (Port Murray, N.J.) paced the Terriers with 14 points. Terhune shot just 3-of-19 from the field but converted on 7-of-8 free throws. Marisa Moseley (Springfield, Mass.) led Boston with seven rebounds.

Binghamton forced 23 turnovers and outrebounded the Terriers 44-35, including a 27-13 margin in the first half. Brooke Kelly (Oakhurst, N.J.) finished with 11 points and five rebounds on the night and Kate Townley (St. Paul, Minn.) and Iesha Eldridge (Buffalo) each grabbed six rebounds.

The Bearcats will return to action Sunday afternoon at 1:00 when they host the Northeastern Huskies in a conference matchup.
