Immediate Release: December 2, 2006 Trailing 14-9 with 12:09 remaining in the first half, the Golden Griffins went on a 13-0 run, fueled by seven points from Cavo, to take a 22-14 lead over the next 4:13. After a mini-run by the Bearcats to close to 22-20, Canisius took a 31-25 lead into the break. In the second half the Golden Griffins extended their lead to 46-36 with 11:09 to play before the Bearcats fought back to within four points, 52-48, on a three-pointer by junior forward Brianna Thompson (Chehalis, Wash.) at the 6:17 mark. Binghamton would be held to two points the rest of the way, however, as Canisius ended the game on a 10-2 run for their fourth consecutive victory. "The
effort was certainly there but we need to execute better"
said Binghamton head coach Rich Conover. "We did a little
bit better in the paint, we didn't get the shots we wanted at
other times". For the Bearcats, junior guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game as she led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with 12 points and also added five rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Juta Jahilo (Helsinki, Finland) posted a season-high 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks as well as a career-high three steals while Thompson added eight points and five rebounds. Binghamton wraps up its three-game road trip when they travel to Lehigh for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday. |
