Women's basketball rally falls short in 65-56 at Canisius

Box Score

BUFFALO N.Y.-- Junior guard Amanda Cavo poured in a game-high 25 points, leading Cansisius (2-1) to a 65-56 win over Binghamton (0-3) win in a non-conference women's basketball game at the Koessler Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The Bearcats have now lost all three games by a combined total of 16 points.

Junior forward Laura Franceski (Moscow, Pa.) netted a career-high 16 points for Binghamton. Senior guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) added 14 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Erica Carter (Naperville, Ill.) chipped in 10 points.

Once again, it was a slow start that put the Bearcats in early trouble. Canisius led 6-0 just 90 seconds into the game, 16-4 at 10:25 mark in the first half and 37-22 at the intermission.

Binghamton stormed back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 57-53 on a jumper by Carter with 2:28 remaining. Canisius, however, sealed the game on a three pointer by Brittane Russell to go up 61-54 with one minute to go in the second half.

Binghamton concludes its season-opening four-game road stretch on Sunday at Sacred Heart at 2 p.m.
