Bearcats unable to overcome foul trouble in the second half

Game File

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.-- Kahilo Szunko scored a game-high 18 points, leading Central Michigan (4-2) to a 76-55 win over Binghamton (2-3) in the consolation game of the Hilton Gardens Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Rollie Activity Center. The loss was the second straight setback in as many days for the Bearcats.

The combination of 24 turnovers and nine three pointers allowed was pivotal in the Bearcat defeat. So too was foul trouble, which forced Binghamton to go to a thin bench early in the second half.

Junior guard Orla O'Reilly netted a team-high 14 points while sophomore forward Kara Elofson recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Jasbriell Swain finished with 11 points while junior point guard Andrea Holmes chipped in 10 points. Swain and Holmes have now reached double figures in all five games this season.

Central Michigan drained six three pointers in the opening 20 minutes to take a 41-30 lead at the break. O'Reilly countered with all of her 14 points, including four three pointers, in the first half.

The Bearcats went on a 7-0 run in the first 2:15 of the second half but got into foul trouble shortly afterwards. Central Michigan took advantage, going on an 11-0 run to go up 52-37 with 14:19 left in regulation. The Bearcats got no closer the rest of the way.

Binghamton returns home to face Army on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
