Nicole Scholl


Nicole Scholl begins first season as the head coach at Binghamton University and her 10th year with the program. She was elevated to the head position on April 30, 2008 and serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator the previous three years. Prior to that, she was an assistant coach the since 1999.

Scholl came to Binghamton from Division II powerhouse North Dakota State University, where she helped lead the Bison to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances — their 12th and 13th straight national bids. As the school’s graduate assistant for two years, Scholl was primarily responsible for on-campus recruiting, floor coaching, game preparation and scouting. North Dakota State has won five national championships, most recently in 1996, and led the country in home attendance nine consecutive years with an average of more than 3,000 fans per game each season.

Prior to her role at North Dakota State, Scholl served three years as the head girls’ basketball coach at Hastings High School in Hastings, Minn., where she led her teams to a state championship and overall record of 64-14. In 1996, she was honored as the Region 3AA and Minnesota Class AA Coach of the Year.

As a player, Scholl was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for Division II Moorhead State University (Minn.). She played from 1989-1993, and garnered all-conference, all-district and honorable mention Kodak All-America accolades as a senior.

Scholl graduated cum laude from Moorhead in 1994 with a degree in physical education. She received her master’s degree in education from North Dakota State in 1999, where she also served as a physical education and health instructor.

Bernitha Johnson

Bernitha Johnson begins her third season as an assistant coach on the Binghamton women’s basketball staff and her first as the recruiting coordinator. She has been responsible for several new aspects of the Bearcat program, including organizing a men’s practice team to work out with the squad during practice sessions.

From 2002-05, Johnson was a manager at Tennessee and worked closely with the coaching staff in breaking down game film and running practices. During her years with the Tennessee program, the squad went to the NCAA championship game in 2003 and 2004.

Johnson has extensive coaching experience as well. She was the assistant coach for the Pilot Comets, an AAU team that advanced to the 2004 National Tournament in Orlando, Florida. During the past year, she also conducted many individual workouts with high school players. In addition, Johnson was a volunteer assistant coach with Kearns High School (located in Knoxville, Tennessee) when it advanced to the Tennessee State Regional Championship in 2004. The previous spring, Johnson coached a spring league boys’ basketball team for the 12-13 age group.

In the summer of 2004, Johnson interned with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA. She assisted the coaching staff with both practices and film breakdown.

Johnson graduated from Tennessee in 2005 with a degree in sport management and a minor in business.

Bet Naumovski

Bet Naumovski is in her first-season as an assistant with the Binghamton program. She arrives from Ontario, where she spent the past 13 years coaching at both the college and club levels. From 2005-07, Naumovski was the head coach of the Toronto-Five O AAU team. She led her squad to the Ontario Cup quarterfinals in 2006 and 2007. The previous two summers, she was the head coach for the Ontario Under-17 team.

At the college leve, Naumovski was an assistant coach with the University of Toronto from 1999-03. In 2000, that program was nationally ranked among the Top 10 in the Canadien Interuniversity Sports system. Before arriving at the University of Toronto, Naumovski was an assistant coach at the University of Geulph.

Since 2006, Namovski has been the Program Director for the Mississauga Minor Basketball Association. It is the largest basketball club in Ontario, offering leagues, camps, tournaments and competitive teams for over 2000 members.

A 1998 graduate of York University, Namovski earned her bachelor’s degree in in 1998. Three years later, she earned her master’s degree, also at York University.

Denique Graves

Denique Graves is in her first-season as an assistant with the Binghamton program. She is a three-year veteran of the WNBA and has seven years of international playing experience. Graves was drafted 15th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs and played for two seasons. In 2001, she signed as a free agent with the Orlando Miracle.

Around the globe, Graves played in Brazil (1997), Greece (1998), Turkey (1999) and Bulgaria (2001). In addition, she was both a professional player and a coach in Sweden (2000), Switzerland (2002), Austria (2003-04) and China (2004).

A 2008 graduate of Howard University, Graves starred for the Bison from 1993-97 before launching her professional career. She was a three-year All-MEAC selection and was the first player from a historically black college or university to be drafted by the WNBA.
