Box Score

TruncaleVestal, N.Y. — Senior forward Leah Truncale (Newburgh, N.Y.) was a one-woman wrecking crew Friday night, totalling career-highs of 25 points and 19 rebounds to lead Binghamton (9-2) to a 65-63 women’s basketball win over visiting Colgate (5-6) at West Gym. Truncale, who battled leg cramps throughout the second half, tallied six of BU’s nine field goals in the final period. Then with Binghamton clinging to a 64-63 lead in the closing seconds, Truncale blocked a potential game-winning Red Raider layup with seven seconds left. She also added five steals and two blocks in 36 minutes.

Truncale’s output helped BU overcome a rough shooting night, as the team struggled to 32% accuracy from the field, including just 26% in the second half. Aside from Truncale, the Bearcats were 12-for-47 (25%). Senior center Sarah Cartmill (Ithaca, N.Y.) also registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Brooke Kelly (Oakhurst, N.J.) added eight points and nine rebounds. Binghamton held a 56-38 command in rebounding, including a 23-7 margin on the offensive glass.

Colgate led 38-37 at the break, and neither team gained an advantage of more than five points the entire game. The Red Raiders enjoyed their final lead, 59-58, with 5:37 to play. Binghamton held a 64-63 lead with 1:24 left, and both teams then missed on two straight possessions leading up to Truncale’s game-saving block. After the block, freshman center Kristin Hibler (Hutchinson, Kan.) was intentionally fouled, and made 1-of-2 free throws for the final margin. Colgate misfired on a last-second 15-foot jumper.

The Bearcats improved to 4-0 at home this season, and 40-2 in the last four years at West Gym.
