VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's and women's basketball teams
participated in Coaches vs. Cancer Weekend this past Saturday
and Sunday and raised over $2,000, nearly double the average
the past six years. All of the proceeds from the weekend went
towards the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Coaches vs. Cancer is a program started by the National Association
of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as an effort to raise awareness
in the fight against cancer. At both the men's and women's games
this past weekend against Vermont, donations were collected through
a 50/50 raffle, a mini hoop shoot and pledges from the Binghamton
coaches.
"The (games) were great, the attendance was wonderful and
the awareness that the American Cancer Society was able to offer
to the community was overwhelming," ACS Special Events Coordinator
Gina Chapman said. "The many, many Decker nursing students
that assisted with cancer education, cancer awareness games and
even with cancer prevention customs and sandwich boards was so
powerful. These men and women have elevated their commitment
with each year - and we are very proud of the support they have
offered to make the Coaches vs Cancer weekend such a success."
