Binghamton women's basketball defeats Le Moyne 93-50 in first exhibition game
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Sophomore guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) led four players in double figures with a game-high 18 points, leading Binghamton to a 93-50 win over Le Moyne in exhibition women's basketball action on Monday night at the Events Center. The game marked the first preseason contest for either team.
Sario scored 11 of her points in the second half and shot 6-of-7 from the field. Freshman center Erin Owens (Coopersburg, Pa.) netted 15 points and shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field. Senior guard Jen Blues (Overland Park, Kan.) finished with 14 points and senior forward Jen Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) added 10 points.
"We showed some good offensive firepower tonight which I was hoping we'd do," head coach Rich Conover said. "I thought our depth was also good tonight, especially with Laura and Erin coming off the bench to lead us in scoring."
The Bearcats broke open a 5-5 game and bolted to a 46-25 halftime advantage. In the second half, it was more of the same as Binghamton outscored Le Moyne 47-25. For the game, the Bearcats shot 63 percent from the field (36-of-57).
The visiting Dolphins placed a pair of players in double figures. Kathleen Gladstone had a team-high 12 points while Ann Belforti chipped in 11 points.
Binghamton hosts St. Rose on Friday at 7 p.m. in their second and final exhibition game of the season.
