Bearcats' win streak snapped at Hartford, 55-45
Women drop into third place in America East

Box Score

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.--Binghamton (11-5, 6-2 America East) had its six game win streak snapped in a 55-45 loss at Hartford (16-3, 7-1 AE) Saturday afternoon at Chase Family Arena. With the win, the Hawks take over sole possession of second place in the 10-team conference.

Binghamton was led by sophomore guard Rachel Laws (Wyncote, Pa.), who shared game-high honors with 12 points - her 13th straight double-figure scoring performance. Junior center Kristin Hibler (Huthinson, Kan.) added nine points and senior forward Leala Wegwerth (Maplewood, Minn.) chipped in nine rebounds, but the Bearcats managed just seven field goals over the final 20 minutes and the Hawks pulled away in the second half.

Hartford jumped out to a 27-18 lead with 2:11 left in the first half before Laws responded with five points in the final 1:27 to pull BU to within four, 27-23 at the break. In the second half, however, the Hawks went on a 14-8 run to stretch the lead to 41-31 with 7:58 to play, and BU got closer than eight the rest of the way.

"I was hoping we would do better job defensively early,"head coach Rich Conover said. "Hartford was very good on defense and we didn't get a lot of open looks today."

The Hawks had three players in double figures, led by Tanika Price, who tallied 12 points.

Binghamton next travels to Vermont for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday.
