basketball loses 74-54 to Hartford
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman guard
Ilicia Mathis scored a game-high 14 points, leading Hartford
(14-8, 9-1 AE) to a 74-54 win over Binghamton (10-13, 5-5 AE)
in an America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night
at the Events Center. The setback is the Bearcats' ninth straight
against the Hawks, who have won three of the last four conference
Mathis, who scored seven points in each half, was one of five
Hartford players to reach double figures in scoring. Senior guard
Lisa Etienne and junior forward Erica Beverly each added 13 points.
For Binghamton, junior guard Erica
Carter led the way with 13 points while freshman forward
Rebane and junior guard Darryll
Peterson each chipped in 10 points. The Bearcats were missing
senior center Laura
Franceski and junior guard Muffy
Sadler, both of whom were out with injuries.
The shorthanded Bearcats stayed within striking distance, trailing
by just 35-28 at the half and 57-47 with 7:31 remaining in regulation.
Over the next seven minutes, however, the Hawks wore down the
Bearcats with a 17-7 run.
Binghamton heads to Stony Brook for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
