Binghamton women's basketball loses 74-54 to Hartford

Box score

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman guard Ilicia Mathis scored a game-high 14 points, leading Hartford (14-8, 9-1 AE) to a 74-54 win over Binghamton (10-13, 5-5 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night at the Events Center. The setback is the Bearcats' ninth straight against the Hawks, who have won three of the last four conference titles.

Mathis, who scored seven points in each half, was one of five Hartford players to reach double figures in scoring. Senior guard Lisa Etienne and junior forward Erica Beverly each added 13 points.

For Binghamton, junior guard Erica Carter led the way with 13 points while freshman forward Viive Rebane and junior guard Darryll Peterson each chipped in 10 points. The Bearcats were missing senior center Laura Franceski and junior guard Muffy Sadler, both of whom were out with injuries.

The shorthanded Bearcats stayed within striking distance, trailing by just 35-28 at the half and 57-47 with 7:31 remaining in regulation. Over the next seven minutes, however, the Hawks wore down the Bearcats with a 17-7 run.

Binghamton heads to Stony Brook for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.

NOTE: Mathis and Carter were the America East Players of the Game.
