Holmes named America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Conference Release

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman point guard Andrea Holmes has been named the America East Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned a weekly honor.

Holmes averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two games this past week. She poured in a career-high 32 points in Binghamton's 91-86 win over Stony Brook on Sunday.

The 32 points by Holmes represents the first time a Binghamton player has reached the 30-point mark since Sarah Cartmill scored 35 points against Hartford on Feb. 17, 2002.
It is also the 12th-highest, single-game total in program history and the second-highest performance at the Division I level, trailing only Cartmill's 35-point effort.

"Andrea continues to grow into a great player," head coach Nicole Scholl said. "She does so many things well. She did that very well this week."

Holmes ranks second on the squad with 9.1 points per game and is first with 3.2 assists per contest.

Binghamton (7-10, 2-2 AE) travels to UMBC on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game.
