Binghamton women's basketball defeats La Salle 53-47

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.-- Senior center Laura Franceski and junior guard Erica Carter each scored a team-high 10 points, leading Binghamton (4-4) to a 53-47 win over La Salle (4-5) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena. The victory was the second straight for the Bearcats.

"Any road win is great for our team and I thought we played very well overall today," head coach Nicole Scholl said. "Erica and Laura were our main scorers but a lot of other players played a role today."

Down 14-9 with 8:44 left in the first half, Binghamton went on a 19-9 run to go up 28-23 at the break. Carter had eight points and Franceski added six during te first 20 minutes.

The Bearcats appeared to have the game locked up when freshman forward Viive Rebane nailed two straight jumpers, pushing the leading to 49-38 with 3:48 left in regulation. From there, however, La Salle scored the next nine points and pulled to within 49-47 with 1:27 left.

Needing some breathing room for her team, freshman guard Andrea Holmes hit a pivotal jumper with 24.3 seconds left. Carter added a pair of free throws in the final seconds to ice the game.

Binghamton returns home for a Wednesday gam48 left in regulation.e against Villanova at 7 p.m.
