Unbeaten Liberty tops Binghamton women's basketball 62-45
VESTAL, N.Y.--Megan Frazee and Roli-Ann Nikagbatse each netted a team-high 11 points, leading unbeaten Liberty (5-0) to a 62-45 triumph over host Binghamton (2-3) in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. The Flames, which won at Virginia on Monday night, are the 10-time defending Big South Conference Champions.
Playing stingy defense, the Bearcats overcame an 18-8 first-half deficit to deadlock the game at 25-25 early in the second half. The decisive run of the game, however, came shortly afterwards as the Flames went on a 12-0 to take a 40-27 lead with 13:46 left in the second half.
"I'm proud of how our team played," Binghamton head coach Rich Conover said after the game. "They (Liberty) are a very good team and made their runs when they had to. We fought back and will continue to improve."
Liberty shot 44 percent for the game but hit 13 its 25 shots after the intermission (52.0 percent). Frazee and Nikagbatse each scored eight of their points in the second half.
Senior guard Shea Kenny (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored a game-high and season-best 12 points while junior guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) chipped in 10 points.
Binghamton begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game at La Salle.
PLEASE NOTE: Kenny was named the Binghamton Player of the Game.
