Tara Morrison tabbed as Binghamton women's basketball assistant coach
VESTAL, N.Y.--Tara Morrison has been hired as an assistant coach on the Binghamton women's basketball team. She arrives from the University of Maine, where was an assistant coach the past four years for the most successful women's basketball squad in the America East Conference during that time.
Morrison joined the Black Bears' staff in September 2001. Over the next four seasons, Maine won the America East Conference regular season title three times and the conference tournament in 2004. In addition, the Black Bears advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 as well as the WNIT in 2003 and 2005. Maine's four-year record with Morrison on the staff, was 86-34 including 58-10 in the America East Conference.
While at Maine, Morrison was responsible for developing the post players. Her most successful player at that position was Heather Ernest, who was named the America East Conference Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004. Morrison also played a role in player recruitment.
"With the addition of Tara, we feel that we are building an outstanding coaching staff," said head coach Rich Conover. "She comes from a very successful program that knows how to play at a championship level."
At Binghamton, Morrison joins a squad that returns four starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's squad.
"I am incredibly excited to join an up-and-coming program in the America East Conference," Morrison said. "I was in charge of scouting Binghamton before Maine played them the past few seasons so I know how much talent the team has."
A 2001 graduate of Adams State College (located in Colorado), Morrison earned her undergraduate degree in exercise physiology with a minor in coaching. She was a forward for three seasons on the basketball team.
With the departures of Morten Thomsen and Leah Truncale from the Binghamton basketball staff, Morrison fills one of the two vacated positions. Conover plans on filling the other slot within the next month.
Binghamton University--Tara Morrison, formerly an assistant women's basketball coach at Maine, is named an assistant women's basketball coach.
