Bearcats Handle Northeastern in 63-49 Victory
Extend Home Court Win Streak to 13 Games

Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton Bearcats (11-3, 2-1 America East) won their 13th consecutive game at West Gym, defeating Northeastern (2-13, 1-4 America East) 63-49 in front of 789 fans. The win was a costly one, as senior forward Leah Truncale (Newburgh) had to leave the game with 5:50 remaining after being fouled hard on a fastbreak layup attempt. Truncale, Binghamton’s all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker, came out with a knee injury and is possibly out for the season. Truncale had 14 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals when she left the game and is averaging 16.1 points and 11.0 rebounds on the season.

Binghamton had four players in double figures in the game, led by senior center Sarah Cartmill (Ithaca), who scored all 15 of her points in the second half to finish with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Brooke Kelly (Oakhurst, N.J.) had 12 points and nine rebounds and teammate Leala Wegwerth (Maplewood, Minn.) had 12 points with six rebounds.

Joi Jefferson (Bowie, Md.) had 15 points and eight rebounds to pace the Huskies, who trailed just 24-22 at the break. Binghamton scored the first six points of the second half and outscored Northeastern 23-7 in the first eight minutes of the second half to take control of the game with a 47-29 lead. Cartmill had 12 points during the run and Brooke Kelly had five.

The Bearcats shot just 25 percent in the opening 20 minutes but took a 24-22 lead into the break. Leale Wegwerth and Kelly each had seven points at the half to lead the Bearcats.

Binghamton returns to action on Thursday evening when they travel to Stony Brook for a conference matchup at 7:00 p.m.
