Binghamton Athletic Department celebrates National Women in Sports Day

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton Athletic Department celebrated National Women in Sports Day during its Jan. 27 home women's basketball game against Boston. It marked the eighth consecutive year that that Binghamton coordinated related activities during one of its home contests.

During halftime of the Bearcats' game against Boston, female student athletes from the majority of Binghamton's proram came down to the court with all girls in attendance who compete in sports to be honored for their participation. Following the game, many of the girls in attendance got to meet the Binghamton student athletes on the concourse of the Events Center.

Also during the halftime festivities, Binghamton President Lois DeFleur granted an interview with Binghamton Bearcats' radio announcer Robert Ford to discus the importance of National Women in Sports Day. President DeFleur has been one of the speakers at Binghamton's National Women in Sports Banquet (which was held on Feb. 1 this year).

A crowd of more than 1,700 watched the Bearcats defeat Boston 70-64. Included among the fans were several girls' sports team who came for the festivities.
