women's basketball loses 62-59 to St. Bonaventure in overtime

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Jessica Jenkins scored a game-high 22 points,
leading St. Bonaventure (1-0) to a 62-59 win over Binghamton
(0-1) in a women's basketball game on Friday night at the Reilly
Center. The game marked the start of the Bearcats' 10th season
as a NCAA Division I program and as a member of the America East
Conference.
"I thought our focus was fantatisc tonight," head coach
Nicole Scholl said. "St Bonaventure plays great defense
and some early turnovers hurt us but we gave it a great effort
against a very good team."
Binghamton forced overtime when freshman guard Jasbriell
Swain, who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, nailed
a three pointer with 1:25 left in regulation. The two squads
were scoreless for the rest of the second half.
In the extra session, Binghamton was down 60-56, but pulled to
within a single point as junior point guard Andrea
Holmes drained a three pointer with 16 seconds left. The
Bearcats were forced to foul Jenkins on the inbounds play and
she converted both of her free throw attempts. Junior guard Orla
O'Reilly attempted a three pointer at the buzzer but it went
off the backboard.
Holmes finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Junior Viive
Rebane had 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a
pair of blocks while Kara
Elofson chipped in 11 points.
Cara Gustafson had 11 points for the Bonnies.
Binghamton hosts Canisius on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its home opener. |
