basketball sweeps America East weekly honors
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Senior center
Franceski has been named the America East Player of the Week
and freshman point guard Andrea
Holmes has been named the Rookie of the Week. It marks the
first time in program history that Binghamton has swept both
America East women's basketball weekly awards.
Franceski averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per
game in leading Binghamton to a pair of victories last week.
Against Maine on Saturday, she just missed a triple-double, finishing
with 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks. Her eight blocks
against the Black Bears tied both a school and an America East
record for single-game rejections. Earlier in the week against
New Hampshire, Franceski posted 11 points, four blocks, a steal
and two assists.
For the week, Franceski went 14-for-21 (.667) from the field
and hit 5-of-6 free-throw attempts. She has now blocked 28 shots
in the past five games and has reached double figures in scoring
three consecutive games.
This is the second time Franceski has earned Player of the Week
honors. The first instance came on January 21, 2008.
Holmes, meanwhile, has now been named the conference's top rookie
twice in the past three weeks. In the Bearcats' two games last
week, she averaged 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and
