Box Score
DURHAM, N.H.
-- Sophomore guard Erica Carter (Naperville, Ill.) had
a team-high 12 points and senior Laine Kurpniece (Riga,
Latvia) added 10 points, leading Binghamton (11-16, 9-5 AE) to
a 59-47 win at New Hamsphire (6-20, 3-11 AE) in an America East
Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the
Events Center. The win is the third straight for the Bearcats
as well as their fourth in the past five games.
Binghamton has clinched at least the No. 5 seed in America East
Tournament, which will be held March 13-16 at Hartford. Binghamton
can still finish as high as No. 3. In addition, Binghamton has
clinched its fourth winning season in conference play since joining
the America East prior to the 2001-02 campaign.
The Bearcats used a 15-4 run to vault out to a 17-7 lead with
12:53 left in the first half. Sophomore point guard Muffy
Sadler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) drained three three-pointers
during that stretch. The Wildcats, however, came back to trim
the deficit to 27-24 at the break.
In the second half, Binghamton regained control of the game,
going up 49-36 with 6:01 left in regulation. Carter scored 10
of her points during that span. In the final six minutes of the
game, Kurpniece went 6-of-6 at the free throw line to ice the
game.
Candace Williams of New Hampshire led all scorers with 13 points.
Binghamton returns home to face Albany on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
