Binghamton women's basketball loses 84-57 at Vermont in regular-season finale

Box Score

BURLINGTON, Vt.- Junior guard Courtnay Pilypaitis poured in a game-high 23 points, leading Vermont (18-11, 12-4 AE) to an 84-57 win over Binghamton (13-16, 8-8 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Patrick Gym. The game marked the final regular-season contest of the season for both squads.

Tied at 14-14 midway through the first half, the Catamounts went on a 26-15 blitz to open up 40-29 at the break. Pilypaitis, the 2008 America East Player of the Year, netted nine of her points during that span.

The Catamounts scored eight unanswered points in the opening 1:17 of the second half to go up 48-29. Junior guard May Kotsopoulos, who finished with 14 points, had five points during that run and Pilypaitis drained a three pointer.

From there, Vermont showed no signs of letting up, eventually taking a 84-55 lead before junior guard
Jackie Ward, who led the Bearcats with 11 points, converted a layup with 20 seconds remaining.

Freshman guard
Andrea Holmes ended up with seven points, five assists, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Freshman Viive Rebane grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Binghamton is the No. 4 seed in the America East Tournament and will face No. 5 UMBC in a quarterfinal game on Friday at noon. The four-day event takes place in Hartford.
