women's basketball loses 53-43 at Villanova
VILLANOVA, PA.-- Host Villanova
(6-2) drained 11 three pointers en route to a 53-43 win over
Binghamton (2-6) in a non-conference women's basketball game
on Friday afternoon at the Pavillion. The loss snapped the Bearcats'
two-game road winning streak.
Maria Getty, who finished with a team-high 18 points. drained
a team-high three pointers, three of which came in the first
half. Tia Grant, who had 11 points, added three three pointers
for the game.
Overshadowed in the defeat was the performance of sophomore guard
Orla O'Reilly. Starting in place of junior guard Jackie Ward,
who was out with the flu, she finished with a career-high 21
points and seven rebounds.
Binghamton was up 8-5 seven minutes into the game but the Wildcats
went on a 15-4 run to take a 20-12 lead with 4:39 left in the
half. Fromt there, Villanova went up 24-14 at the break.
The Bearcats came out strong in the second half. trimming the
deficit to 27-25 with 14:32 remaining in regulation. Villanova
scored the next seven points but Binghamton pulled to within
37-32 at the 7:51 mark.
From there, however, the Wildcats put the game away with a 12-2
blitz in a span of 3:30.
Senior forward Theodora Panteli notched her first career double-double,
scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Binghamton returns to action against Miami on Dec. 19 at the
Events Center at 2 p.m.
