BOSTON
- Freshmen attack Ali Castiglie (Middle
Island, N.Y.) and Lisa Illig (Corning,
N.Y.) have been named to the 2008 America East All-Rookie Womens
Lacrosse Team, in voting conducted by the league's head coaches
and released by the conference office Thursday evening.
The first-year offensive duo led the Bearcats to a program-best
five wins and headed a 10-member freshman class that combined
to account for 72 percent of the team's total scoring this spring.
Castiglie made an immediate
impact in her first collegiate season finishing the year with
a team-best 19 assists and second in points with 37. The 37 points
represent the second highest point total for a BU freshman in
program history (Becky Green - 59 pts, 2004).
The Long Island native recorded a point in 15 of 16 games and
ranked sixth among America East players with 1.19 assists per
game. Castiglie earned America East Rookie of the Week honors
on February 25 after playing an instrumental role with a hat
trick and a team-high four points in BU's come-from-behind 12-11
win over Colgate (Feb. 22).
Illig joins Castiglie on the all-rookie team after an impressive
freshman campaign in which she ranked second on the team with
19 goals and third with 25 points. The Corning, N.Y. native registered
a point in 14 of 16 games, including eight multi-point efforts,
and tied for second on the team with 12 caused turnovers.
Binghamton returns 21 of 24 letterwinners from its 2008 squad
that finished with an overall mark of 5-11. |
