Bearcats season ends with 19-3 loss to Albany

VESTAL, N.Y.--The visiting Great Danes (3-13, 2-3 AE) socred the game's first three goals and built a 9-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game, cruising to a 19-3 victory over host Binghamton (0-12, 0-5 AE) in the regular season and America East finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at the East Gym Complex.

Junior midfielder Elizabeth Michalenko (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored the game's first goal just 2:07 into the game, and freshman attacker Nikki Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Jenn Rajczak (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) each tallied a pair of goals in the 9-1 spurt.

The Bearcats got on the board at the 21:26 mark of the first half when freshman attacker Kristin Disch (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) converted a free position goal, but the Great Danes then held Binghamton scoreless until the final 10 minutes of the game. Senior goalie Amanda Heller (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) played all but the final five minutes in goal and made seven saves. Donohue saw her first action of the season in the net, recording saves on all three shots she faced in the final 5:30.

Albany was led in scoring by senior attacker Maria Ferrucci (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East), who tallied a pair of goals in each half. Rajczak added a game-high three assists, while senior attacker Andrea Esposito (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) netted two goals and an assist and freshman midfielder Courtney Hill (Lafayette, N.Y.) handed out two assists.

Disch added her second goal of the game at the 19:35 mark of the second half, scoring on a feed from freshman attacker Allison Lak (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia). Sophomore attacker Laura Gabbamonte (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored at the 20:07 mark for Binghamton's other goal. Junior defender Clodagh Harte (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) assisted on the goal. Junior goalie Allison Steinberg (Pearl River, N.Y.) came off the bench for the first time this season and made 11 saves in 47 minutes in the net.
