Binghamton women's lacrosse drops season finale to Albany 15-10

VESTAL, N.Y.--After seniors Laura Gabbamonte (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Kelly Kaso (Flushing, N.Y.), Lisa Picco (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Christa Quon (Vestal, N.Y.) and Gina Romanelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) were honored before playing their final home games, Albany (6-11, 4-2 America East) was down 4-2 then scored six straight goals late in the first half and used that lead for a 15-10 victory over Binghamton (4-12, 0-6 AE) in their season finale on Friday evening at the East Gym Complex.

The Bearcats took the early lead on a goal by freshman Leanee Musso (Auburn, N.Y.), Nikki Donohue countered with a goal for Albany 15 seconds later. Sophomore Heather Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) gave the Bearcats the lead with a goal assisted by Gabbamonte. Sarah Spillett tied the game at 2-2 with a goalf for the Great Danes. Sophomores Laruen Chemotti (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Anna Riordan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each scored goals, giving Binghamton a 4-2 lead. Albany went on a 6-0 run late in the half to take for good. Musso scored the final goal of the half with less then 30 seconds left.

Albany scored seven goals in the second half to secure the 15-10 victory. Riordan, junior Lauren Wetherell (Bethpage, N.Y) and sophomore Danielle Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y.) each had once goal, while Gabbamonte had a pair of goals for the Bearcats in the second half.

"I think we played well today," head coach Emily Edmonston said. "This game is a great way to end the season on. Our team had consistency throughout the game, something we have been lacking all year. Laura (Gabbamonte) played a splendid game, I am proud of her. Looking back at the season we improved immensely with execution, mentality and awareness."

Albany outshot Binghamton 41-30 for the game, the Great Danes won 15 of the 26 drawcontols.

The Bearcats conclude their fourth varsity season with a 3-12 overall record, going 0-6 against America East competition. Binghamton finished in sixth place in the final regular season standings.
