LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Binghamton women's lacrosse team lost yet another heartbreaker to hosting Bucknell, 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon at a windy Graham Field. Three of the Bearcats four losses this year, have been decided by one goal.
The Bearcats got behind early again, as Bucknell jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 21:08 left in the first half. Binghamton scored two quick goals within a minute, to cut the lead to one. Both teams would go on to score two more goals, and the Bisons would carry a 5-4 lead into the half.
Sophomore Lisa Illig scored just thirteen seconds into the second half to tie the game. However, Sophomore Julia Braun scored twice to give Bucknell a two goal lead with 12:13 left in the game. The Bearcats clawed their way back into the game as sophomore Ali Castiglie scored a pair of goals, including the game tying goal with 5:39 left on the clock. The game looked headed to overtime, until sophomore attack Becca Devine scored on a free position shot with only five seconds left.
Binghamton out shot Bucknell 31 to 18, including 15 to eight in the second half. The Bisons were anchored by goalie sophomore Alyssa DeLorenz who had a standout game with a career-high 17 saves.
Castiglie led the Bearcats with three goals and four caused turnovers, while sophomore Beth Moore added two goals and two ground balls.
Binghamton returns home on Saturday, March 21 to open up the America East Conference at noon.
